Here at ScaleArc, we've made our mark in delivering zero downtime for apps in a database environment. We're proud to announce that our latest release of ScaleArc for SQL Server extends our secret sauce to the SQL Mirroring world - our patented technology now supports application-transparent failover on SQL Server mirroring clusters without the need for or cost of a witness server.
This is a big deal, because now customers of SQL Server Standard Edition can get AlwaysOn-like functionality without the enterprise cost. Lots of Microsoft customers - even lots of AlwaysOn customers running Enterprise Edition - also have Standard Edition deployments that use mirroring as their high availability (HA) technology.
The ScaleArc database load balancing software enables customers to deliver zero downtime environments, shielding applications from database downtime. The technology holds database requests in a queue during database failover and then forwards the requests once the failover is complete. As a result, users of ScaleArc-enabled applications and websites see delay but not errors during failover.
ScaleArc for SQL Server has supported this application-transparent failover for AlwaysOn Availability Groups for years. Now customers of Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition can access the same kind of seamless failover that Enterprise Edition and AlwaysOn customers enjoyed.
“Far more customers use SQL Server Standard Edition and cannot leverage AlwaysOn Availability Groups,” said David Klee, founder and president of Heraflux Technologies. “ScaleArc’s seamless failover capabilities are impressive, and the company will enhance application uptime options for thousands of businesses with this release.”
